Loose Bracket

Leave the bracket in place if it’s still attached to the wire

Apply orthodontic wax to prevent irritation

Avoid hard or sticky foods

Call during office hours to schedule repair

Poking Wire

Use nail clippers (sterilized) to carefully trim if safe

Call if the problem persists or worsens

Lost Rubber Band

Replace with a new rubber band if you have extras

Follow the wearing pattern shown by your doctor

Don’t double up bands to compensate

Call if you run out of replacement bands

Mouth Sores

Rinse with warm salt water several times daily

Apply orthodontic wax to irritating areas

Use over-the-counter oral pain relief gel

Contact us if sores worsen or don’t heal

Broken retainer

Stop wearing the broken retainer immediately

Keep the pieces in a safe place
3
Call or text our office the next business day

Don’t attempt to fix or continue wearing

Significant Discomfort

Take over-the-counter pain medication as directed

Apply cold compress to outside of mouth
