A Transformative Solution for Comfort, Confidence, and a Healthier Smile
What is Orthognathic Surgery?
Corrective jaw surgery, often called orthognathic surgery, is a precise procedure designed to fix significant jaw misalignments that braces or aligners alone cannot resolve. By combining the expertise of orthodontists and oral surgeons, this approach not only enhances how your jaw functions but also improves facial appearance, making a meaningful impact on overall health and confidence.
Who Needs Orthognathic Surgery?
Orthognathic surgery is recommended for patients with severe jaw alignment problems that significantly impact function, health, or quality of life.

Common questions about orthognathic surgery, answered by our experienced team.
Is orthognathic surgery covered by insurance?
A number of insurance policies include coverage for orthognathic surgery when it’s needed to address medical or functional issues. Your surgeon will guide you through the coverage process and supply the required paperwork for pre-approval.
How long is the recovery process?
The first stage of recovery usually lasts 4–6 weeks, and most patients are able to resume work in about 2–3 weeks. Full healing, along with the final results, including any follow-up orthodontic treatment, generally occurs within 6–12 months.
Will I need to stay in the hospital?
The majority of jaw surgeries are performed on an outpatient basis, allowing you to return home the same day. For more complicated cases, an overnight stay may be suggested to ensure proper monitoring and comfort.
Will I have any scars after jaw surgery?
The majority of cuts made during jaw surgery are placed inside the mouth, leaving no visible scars. Occasionally, a tiny external incision on the jaw may be required, but it’s typically under 5 mm and barely noticeable.
Why do I need braces or Invisalign after surgery?
Although surgery can properly position the jaws, it doesn’t automatically move your teeth into perfect alignment. Orthodontic devices are then used to guide your teeth into their correct positions.
When will I see the final results?
Initial changes can be seen right away, but the full outcome becomes clear as swelling subsides over 3–6 months. The complete transformation, including any follow-up orthodontic work, is usually finalized within 12–18 months.
